Grace Fellowship Church moves to its new building
February 12, 2010

STANFORD — Grace Fellowship Church will hold its first service in its new building Sunday.

The facility on U.S. 27 a mile south of Lincoln County High School is designed for multipurpose use. It has a basketball court incorporated into the ministry center, and interior hallways that form a loop where people can walk.

Since June 2003, the church has held services in a temporary, rented location in the former Legends dance hall on U.S. 27. Playing on the unusual location, the church decided early on that its motto would be “Building a new legend on Jesus Christ.”

Pastor Vola Brown said the church will keep the motto as it moves into its new building. “Our goal is and will continue to be leading people to Jesus Christ,” he said.

The church, which draws about 175 worshipers to Sunday morning services, has baptized 63 people since its beginning six years ago. In its new and larger facility, Brown expects the church will continue growing as its reaches out to people in the community and expands its ministries, which include youth, medical, counseling, crisis pregnancy, music, food pantry and others.

Brown said many people gave of their time and money to help build the new facility. Ninety to 100 men with Carpenters for Christ framed up the building in the spring, and since then there have been numerous mission groups and individuals volunteer their time and skills. Church members also have pitched in.

On Sundays, the church has Sunday school at 10 a.m., morning worship at 11 a.m. and evening worship at 6:30 p.m. On Wednesdays, the youth meet for food and activities while the adults have prayer meeting at 7 p.m. Dress for all services is casual, and a nursery and Sunday morning children’s church are available.
