Stanford banking executive and businessman Marvin Marshbanks has been appointed to serve a three-year term on The Center for Rural Development’s Board of Directors.

“I am proud to represent Lincoln County on the board,” Marshbanks said upon accepting the appointment. “I look forward to increasing the awareness in my community of what The Center has to offer.”

Marshbanks operated wholesale and retail family businesses for 27 years in Lincoln, Garrard and Casey counties before entering the financial services industry in 2005 as a broker for Edward Jones Investments.

He now works as an investment executive for Farmers National Bank of Danville, providing services for the bank’s clients in Lincoln and Garrard counties.

“We are extremely pleased that Marvin has chosen to serve The Center through his appointment to our Board of Directors,” Lonnie Lawson, president and CEO of The Center, said. “We will all benefit from his expertise and perspective as we work together to improve the lives of citizens across our region.”

Marshbanks’ appointment to The Center’s Board of Directors will fill a vacancy left by the death of Jim Reed. His term of service runs through 2013.

Marshbanks also is a member of the Board of Directors of the Garrard County Chamber of Commerce, and has served from 1992-1998 on the Fort Logan Hospital board, where he worked with a committee to raise community funds for a new hospital building. In addition, he serves on the Stanford Main Street Committee and is board chairman of Stanford Christian Church.

He and his wife, Rhonda, a retired Lincoln County teacher, make their home in Stanford. They have two adult children, Matthew and Amanda.

The Center for Rural Development, the Center of Excellence for rural Kentucky and the nation, provides economic and community development programs to residents in a 42-county primary service area of Southern and Eastern Kentucky, and is home to several statewide and national technology-based programs.
