| knobnoter Monday, February 8, 2010: 11:20 am Neutral | The recent article abour Lincoln County's historical Courthouse was very interesting. I remember as a child when our parents went to "town" on Saturday morning to do their weekly shopping for things not grown at home, like sugar, salt, etc. The courthouse (after the chevon station, the dime store), was always one of the places us kids ended up. There was something about all of those courthouse steps that we enjoyed climping and running down. Stanford should be very proud of its heritage. As a past member of the Stanford Historical Society, and a proud home grown native of Boneyville I am proud to call Lincoln County home.

If you look at studies dry counties in the South have the greatest number of drug addicts in the US. Second why don't we ban fast food places ie, Mc'donalds Burger King..... I see overweight people with health problems more of a problem in this county than anything. Yet no one mentions that when they compare stuff with alcohol in this county. I sickens me to see such a number of people who are over weight. Not because of their looks because they lack the motivation and proper guidance to help theirselves yet their kids are getting the same weight which is child abuse in some states. Yet no action is taken. In most staes cigs and alcohol sales is where most funding from education comes from. I keep hearing spend your money in the community. If you want a bottle of wine to go with a nice dinner where do you think they are going to do their shopping at? Not Lincoln, they will do it elsewhere since they have to travel to get it.

| ConnieJ Friday, September 25, 2009: 12:06 pm Neutral | Re: Eviction improper, lawsuit says. The plaintif is complaining that he was "illegally evicted". The homeowners went through the court's eviction process. The article does not address the amount (if any) of back rent owed, or any possible damage done by the tenent. The curent laws highly favor the renters in these cases, leaving the homeowners to pay their own costs of the evictions, absorbing the unpaid rent, and fixing the sometimes-extensive damage to their property. Now the evicted person has found a lawyer to further add to the many problems faced by landlords today. Such a shame. (And, no, I am not a landlord, nor have I ever been a landlord.)

| theville Friday, September 25, 2009: 2:21 am Neutral | Mr. Broihier was too gentle on Mr Cope. Mr. Cope is a fraud for claiming he was a PJ during Desert Storm. I tried out for pararescue at Lackland. That did not make me a PJ. I have flown in jet fighters. That did not make me a pilot. I fired weapons in the military. That didn't make me a marksman. I could go on, but you get the idea. I am proud to have trained and served with many PJ. They all worked hard to earn that title. Allowing a guy that didn't spend much time in the USAF to say because he was in the Para Rescue swimming pool that he was one of the elite PJ's does every one of those tough, dedicated airmen a injustice. What I find interesting is that the men that worked and trained and worked and trained some more to put themselves in harms way so "that others may live" do not need to brag or lie- they know who they are and what they have accomplished - THAT is honor. You, Mr. Cope wouldn't know honor if it walked up and slapped you. You insult them (the real PJ's); the wives and children of these men; and the parents and siblings of these men. Also, thank you from the Pj's that have given all in the service of their country and their fellow man. Many of them were in training (like Mr. Cope) and stuck with it, healed and graduated. Then, when they we're asked they they met the ultimate challenge. Mr Cope was never a part of this group but simply one of the thousands who attempted entry and failed. Thank you for exposing this blatant attempt to share in a light that others have earned. Our team doesn't care much if people misrepresent that they were one of us, but when they say they were members of the same team as our friends that earned their berets and gave their lives - that's where we get protective. | TPD1280 Monday, September 21, 2009: 3:22 pm Neutral | Mr. Broihier, Thank you for your dilligence, and willingness to pursue a story that many would consider less than earth-shattering. Others in the media today are carried downstream by the rapid pace of the news cycle and have demonstrated an unwillingness to go backwards to correct or check a story. Thank you for your integrity. As for Mr. Cope, too many of our current crop of elected officials rely on verbal sleight-of-hand with the "technical truth" rather than stating the "simple truth". The simple truth is Mr. Cope served in the United States Air Force during the Gulf War era. He completed boot camp, and while in training to become a PJ he sustained an injury that ended his military career. Saying that he was, "“a member of the United States Air Force Special Forces Pararescue Training Unit," implies that he was a trainer, not a trainee. Once again, Mr. Cope is playing with the "technical truth" vice stating the simple truth. With the attention given in recent years to Special Operations Forces, it seems that some people are not satisfied to have simply served their nation proudly in the role to which they were assigned. It is sad that some feel the need to aggrandize their service with half-truths, innuendo, or out right lies. Without Cooks, the eilte do not eat. Absent the support of Personnel Specialists, Paymasters, Supply and Logisitcs, Transportation, Armorers, and a host of other unsung but absolutely mission essential roles, the "cool guys" would never get out of the door. Mr. Cope could and should have been justifiably proud of his willingness to stand up and serve despite the fact that his effort was thwarted by injury. His word choice notwithstanding, Mr. Copes statements proclaim that he is not proud of his service. He slaps every Veteran in the face, and by wrongfully taking a title which he did not earn he steals from the honor of the men who did earn their maroon beret. Mr. Cope obviously was not in the PJ training pipeline long enough to fully comprehend the self-sacrificial nature of the motto: That Others Might Live. Somehow he interpreted it, "That I might be cool." Respond to this comment |

Whether he is a Rep or Dem makes no difference - this man is NOT an Honorable man. My Air Force PJ brothers do a incredible job, I am livid that this person would make these false claims. If this man misrepresented himself, how can he Honorably "Represent" people of his district? He cannot. He is a self serving, egotistical LIAR as evidenced by his false claims and exaggerations. Unfortunately out of our ranks there are always those that lie and exaggerate to us and the public. This clown needs to be investigated - NOT Elected, send this dude away with his head hung down. | ma91c1an Monday, September 21, 2009: 8:29 am Neutral | Mr. Broihier: I wish to thank you for such a superb example of responsible journalism. It is vital that Kentuckians know that such a corrupt wanna-be politician as Mike Cope has stooped to outright thievery of valor in his avaricious bid for public office. It is high time that Americans insist on a higher standard among our elected officials. A man who will lie in order to gain public office cannot be entrusted with the responsibility of representing the interests of his constituents. Clearly, a man who would engage in rank falsehood in an effort to gain office would be capable of virtually anything. We have had enough of such politicians. Mr. Cope should crawl back under the rock where he was spawned and pray that his family can forgive him for shaming them and himself. I would also like to ask that the district attorney in the appropriate jurisdiction where Mr. Cope stated in public that he was a former Pararescueman prosecute him under Stolen Valor statutes. Once Mr. Cope has been prosecuted under state statutes, he should then be prosecuted by the US Attorney in Kentucky under federal Stolen Valor statutes. Until each and every violator of the honor earned by our nation's veterans is prosecuted to the hilt, we will see no end of such deceit and dishonesty. Again, my sincere thanks for your work in researching the truth behind this loser, and most of all, thanks for having the guts to put it in writing. | No fish tale here | |
| knobnoter Monday, September 14, 2009: 8:44 pm Neutral | A big fish story was what it turned out to be of giving Mrs. Laura M. Stewart $100 for throwing that fish back into the pond. Here it is September 14 and I heard that she has not received her money from the pond owner for returning that fish to the pond. True enough the fish died once it was returned to the water; maybe it took the owner of the pond too long to get to the pond to see the fish, maybe the fish could not hold its breath out of the water too long. But dead or alive was not specified as qualifications for payments. I learned this 50 years ago in 4th grade, at the old Lincoln school and it stills means the same today:WHEN YOU MAKE A PROMISE KEEP IT-KEEP IT-FOR ITS THE PROPER THING TO DO-TO DO-FOR IF YOU EVER TRY AND BREAK IT-BREAK IT-THEN BAD LUCK WILL COME TO YOU-TO YOU. | Climate change legislation must be examined | |
| ConnieJ Wednesday, September 9, 2009: 7:11 am Neutral | This article outlines some of the problems with the 'Cap & Trade' legislation. What it comes down to is that this is a HUGE tax on many aspects of ALL our lives. Everyone's utility bills will see marked increases after this is initiated. The projection is for at least a 30% increase. Also hidden in this bill that has been passed by the House of Representatives is a provision that affects every homeowner in this country. If you wish to sell your home, or if you apply for a permit to improve your home, You MUST retro-fit your home to meet ALL the criteria which will be mandated to make your home 'green'. That includes windows, insulation, appliances, heating and air conditioning, water heaters, etc. Your home cannot be sold or inspection-approved until ALL criteria are met which are outlined in that >1000-page document. There are so many restrictions and mandates in the bill so that many businesses will be forced out of business, with the ensuing loss of many more jobs. This country depends on the many small businesses that support our local economies, but they are the very ones who will be most affected. Big businesses get many exemptions, but it is the small businessman who is the 'backbone' of our economy. China and India WILL NOT sign on to the same restrictions with which we are faced, but will be buying the 'carbon credits' on the open market and sell them back to our companies to enable them to get the needed energy to operate their businesses. Everyone needs to contact their Senators and tell them to vote 'NO' on ANY 'Cap & Trade' legislation, which will cripple our economy but will help the economies of countries who do not participate. WAKE UP AMERICA! Get involved, and let your government know how concerned you are for the future of our country. Respond to this comment |

| knobnoter Friday, August 14, 2009: 4:15 pm Neutral | Even if I still laid my head down in Lincoln County to sleep at night I would still be unable to vote NO in the wet-dry vote for Oct. Surely the folks of Stanford realize that if Stanford going wet means the sale of the alcohol may be sold in Stanford, but the drunks will bring it to Boneyville to consume it. Boneyville don't need all those drunks on their two narrow roads. The white folks who drive the hill on Spoonamora Lane coming from McKinney and Hustonville, don't know how to pull over to the right toward the barn when coming into Boneyville-giving the right of way to outgoing vehicles-and driving over to the right toward Spoonamora's house when going toward town, giving the right of way to traffic coming into Boneyville. Do you think a bunch of drunks are going to remember those rules. No! All they are going to think about is to 'JUMP' the hill, and there will be casualities on the road. Boneyville don't need any faster and faster drunks on the road because Stanford went wet and sent their drunks to Boneyville; They sure are not going to let them drink the liquor around Stanford.

| AvidReader Friday, August 14, 2009: 2:30 pm Neutral | I appreciate the editorials about national issues (cap and trade, conduct in town hall meetings) and how they relate to us, locally. Whether or not everyone agrees with the opinions expressed I think the discussion and consideration of the national issues and their local impact is of value.

| ConnieJ Saturday, August 8, 2009: 7:52 am Neutral | Mr. Underwood is absolutely right. The "Cap & Trade" scam is just that -- a way to tax the people with the scam of 'save the planet'. This will only send MORE of our industry to China & India, both of whom are the world's greatest polluters and WILL NOT participate in the 'Cap & Trade' project. However -- they WILL BUY the carbon credits on the open market and SELL them back to our industries at highly-inflated costs. This horrendous legislation only ensures that even more of our industries will be forced offshore, with the ensuing loss of millions of American jobs.

| hsr0601 Saturday, August 8, 2009: 2:10 am Neutral | Science / Innovation Key To Recovery ! 1. The pay for 'Outcome' pack is most likely to expedite the introduction of Health Care IT SYSTEM so that it can reduce the redundant work burden, focus physician's effort to patients, and store patients' informations to skip the repetitive and painful procedures. 2. The synergy effect of combined Health Care IT & a pay for 'Outcome' SYSTEM may help the clinicians correctly diagnose and effectively treat a patient earlier in the process so that it can measurably scale back the crushing lawsuits and deter the excuse for unnecessary procedures to make fortunes. 3. In modern society, 'medical institute' and 'energy sector' is the only arena that is not retrofitted with 'a must' . And what happens if the financial institutes get back to the PRE- IT SYSTEM ? , supposedly the crisis would be comparable to the present health care crunch. Unlike the numeric errors, medical mistakes, in most cases, is fatal to patients. It is believed that over the duration of two wars, computer IT has not expanded the progress to 'electronic medical records' & ' smart grid technology' . With them in place, people all around the globe might have avoided this tragic recession. 4. The Mayo Clinic medical practice has embarked on the first widely available e-health information service for patients on Microsoft's HealthVault service. Through Mayo Clinic's network, users of its health-care services can keep up with their health information and information for family members, and receive health guidance and recommendations from Mayo that is optimized for each person. The system also allows patients to upload information from home-health devices such as blood glucose monitors and digital scales. Patients can authorize whether they want to share their health information with doctors or other caregivers, and those caregivers can provide health-care and general wellness recommendations based on the information patients provide. | hsr0601 Saturday, August 8, 2009: 2:09 am Neutral | The 'innovative' idea of a 'pay for value / outcome' pack came after the CBO had previously pointed out this health care reform wouldn't work without 'fundamental' change in the out of date system. It is said that as much as 30 percent of all health-care spending in the U.S. -some $700 billion a year- may be wasted on tests and treatments that do not improve the health of the recipients, and this 700 billion dollars a year can cover a lot of uninsured people. (Please visit http://www.kare11.com/news/news_article.aspx?storyid=820455&catid=391 for detailed infos). The expected Benefits of this 'innovative idea' are as follows ; 1. Meet the objective of revenue-neutral. Supporters of the agreement say it could save the Medicare System more than $100 billion a year and 'improve' care, that means more than $1trillian over next decade, and virtually needs no other resources including tax on the wealthiest. Supposedly even the 'conservative' number of such savings might be able to meet the objective of revenue-neutral. 2. Quality and affordability. If you are a physician, and your pay is dependant upon your patient's outcome, you will most likely strive to prescribe the best medicine earlier in the process, let alone skipping the wasteful, unnecessary risk-carrying procedures. 3. No intervention in decision-making. The innovative idea of 'a pay for outcome' will more likely prompt team approach and decision, as at Myo clinic. Under the 'pay for outcome' pack, for good reason, best practices as 'recommendations' would simply help them make a better decision, and the government won't still have to meddle in the final, actual decision-making process as a non-expert. 4. Speed up the introduction of IT SYSTEM. The pay for 'Outcome' pack is most likely to expedite the introduction of Health Care IT SYSTEM. The synergy effect of the combined Health Care IT & a pay for 'outcome' system may allow the clinicians to 'correctly' diagnose and effectively treat a patient earlier in the process so that it can measurably scale back the crushing lawsuits and deter the excuse for unnecessary cares to make fortunes. 5. Accelerate the progress in medical science, in return, it saves more cash. 6. Settle the regional disparity. 7. Reduce the emergency room visits & save immense costs. Public health insurance plans such as Medicare and Medicaid paid for more than 40 percent of U.S. emergency room visits in 2006, according to government figures released recently. Many experts say reducing these hospital visits would be an important way to lower the enormous, and growing, expense of U.S. health care. I share the opinion that unlike the insurer-friendly senate plan by 'some' members, only a strong public option will be capable of getting the premium inflation under control and saving the U.S in turbulence. To my knowledge, a dual system tends to deliver better results than a pure single payer system. Supposedly, to be or not to be might be up to the innovations like a pay for value program, otherwise, the forthcoming start-ups may fill the void with competitive deals. The competition based on 'fair' market value would be a beauty of true capitalism, not monopoly, an objective for anti-trust. Thank You ! Respond to this comment |

| hsr0601 Saturday, August 8, 2009: 2:08 am Neutral | According to the scoring of CBO on the prevention & wellness program, all fitness centers around the world should close down immediately and all media have to end reporting health tips about prevention. Immune System & Levee System : All of the excellent health systems seem to have one thing in common, a expansive, systematic preventative program requiring immense investments. I think a prevention system works as a 'levee' built against flood by the government, similarly, it also needs non-profit investments from the government 'on a large scale'. This might offer us the clue of why all of the free states have public insurance policy in place. It won't be easy to draw some specific numbers on the economic effect of the 'levee' , but the flood measure lacking a stable 'levee' would be a house on sand, as the too high level of 'preventable' chronic diseases in America shows. At present, about 75 percent of each health dollar goes to treating chronic conditions. When tests reveal patients are at risk of a chronic disease, physicians have no benefit to help them make necessary changes to stay healthy. Rather, the system today is designed around treating patients once they become sick. If current health care system could shift a small percentage of total spending into programs that help prevent people from getting sick in the first place, in combination with the KEY 'pay for OUTCOME' reimbursement reform based on IT SYSTEM, it would dramatically reduce the overall cost of care. Thankfully, the health care reform bill currently before Congress makes several key investments in preventive care, and those pieces of the PUBLIC OPTION must be maintained. "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.", said Benjamin Franklin , and 'Early Detection' goes beyond monetary value as we see the recent case. As far as I'm concerned, the congress affected by the special interests has impeded the budget request for prevention program in Medicare & Medicaid. Let's imagine the costs and invaluable lives following the levee breach. Time is ripe for CHANGE ! To see the forest, get a big picture, massive job creation, promising stem cell research, several times more economic effects of 'from bed to work' , relief on the mental stress and keep-eating-habit caused by deep-seated financial anxiety, which are the epicenter of a number of different diseases, and beyond lie ahead, to be sure.
