Edward Sterling Grimes, 43, died of natural causes Tuesday, March 25, 2017.
He was the son of Lou Jean Leedy Grimes and Richard Newland Grimes. Survivors include his parents, and his sister, Rachel Grimes, her husband Alec Johnson, and their extended families. He will be deeply missed by countless friends, collaborators, and work-family members.
Beloved son, brother, friend, leader, drummer, singer and song-writer, Edward’s passion for life was evident in a lifetime of music-making, jokes, antics, and acts of loving kindness. Edward recorded many albums and performed with Seluah, Rachel’s, Basement Fear, Oval, and many others. Edward was employed by Proof on Main for eleven years, and worked at many other Louisville restaurants.
A celebration of his life will take place Saturday, April 1, 2017, at the Speed Museum in Louisville, Ky. Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Memorial service at the same location at 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, his family and friends ask donations be made in Edward’s name to Shamrock Pet Foundation, Girls Rock Louisville, Blue House/West Louisville Talent Education Center, or a charity of choice.
