Glen Phillip Byers, 69, of South Hill, Va., passed away Sunday, July 2, 2017 in Richmond Va.

Born Sept. 28, 1947, in New Castle, Ind., Glen was a son of the late Glen and Marie (Holmes) Byers. He was a 1965 graduate of Walter P. Chrysler High School in New Castle, Ind., and later attended Ball State University. Phil loved family, friends, music, history and was a wonderful storyteller. He was an avid fan of all sports and had a specific love for the Indiana Hoosiers and the Indianapolis Colts.

Phil will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Lisa Byers of South Hill, Va.; his four children, Mandy Gibson of Indianapolis, Ind., Missy (Mike) Burns of New Castle, Ind., Pat (Sara) Byers of Wabash, Ind., and Steven Byers of South Boston, Va.; one sister, Barbara Stover of New Castle, Ind.; eight grandchildren; numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins; and many lifelong friends around the country.

He was also preceded in death by three brothers Don, Kay and Dean Byers; and a sister, Susan Byers.

No public services are planned.

The family has requested that memorial contributions be directed to Disabled American Veterans (cst.dav.org) or to VCUHealth Hospital Nurses and Patient Services Fund (www.support.VCU.edu/give/VCUHealth) in Phil’s name.
