Alexis Slone didn’t achieve her goal of medalling at the 2017 KHSAA State Cross Country Championships Saturday at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, but the Lincoln seventh-grader did put her best foot forward in the high school 5K by running her personal best time.
Slone covered the 3.1-mile distance in 22:27.12, which placed her 90th overall out of a field of 215 runners.
Victoria Dotson of Rockcastle County, who was the winner out of Slone’s Region 5, emerged as the champion in the Class 2A state meet. Dotson, a sophomore, captured the Lady Rockets’ first-ever cross country state title in 19:15.80.
All of the top 10 Class 2A finishers posted sub-20 times. Maggie Schroeder of Highlands finished right behind Dotson in 19:17.78 to clinch the runner-up spot.
