Lincoln boys go 2-2 in holiday tourney

The Lincoln County Patriots went 2-2 in the pre-Christmas Arby’s/KFC Holiday Classic at McCreary Central.
Following the 61-57 opening win over Wayne County, Lincoln fell to host McCreary Central, defeated Russell County, then closed the tournament in a loss to Somerset to go to 4-7 on the season.
No game stats were available for the Patriots’ 61-57 loss to the McCreary Central Raiders (5-6).
In Lincoln’s 68-51 victory over Russell County the following night, Chase Phillips and Blake Smith combined for 42 points with both scoring 21 points. Phillips also had six rebounds.
Jaxon Smith and Elijah Frye both added eight points, Spencer Baird had four points and six rebounds and Bryson Yaden, Riley Bodner and Rodney Alcorn had two points apiece.
Lincoln shot 55 percent from the field in the win, going 26-for-47, 4-for-11 from 3-point range. The Pats were 12-for-16 from the foul line.
No game stats were available for Russell (3-8).
Somerset retained its claim to the best record in the 12th Region, notching a 52-41 win over Lincoln Saturday night to improve to 10-1.
The Briar Jumpers, who defeated Lincoln by 16 points on Dec. 2, were led by Jake Cothron and Kross Grundy with 14 points apiece. Kade Grundy had nine points, Trae Harmon had seven, Collin Hartmann had five points and 12 rebounds and Josh Cornett had two points.
Phillips led Lincoln’s scoring with 16 points and Blake Smith was right behind him with 15 points. Phillips also had five rebounds while Smith had four. Bodner added six points, Baird had three points and four boards and Sawyer Carrier had one point.
Lincoln shot 44 percent from the field against Somerset, going 18-for-41, 3-for-14 from 3. The Pats were 2-for-6 at the foul line.
Somerset finished at 43 percent on 18-for-42 shooting, 6-for-14 from 3-points out. The Briar Jumpers were 14-for-18 at the line.
