Crab Orchard Fall Cleanup Days

The City of Crab Orchard will have Fall Clean-Up Days for residents within City Limits. Limit one load per customer. If you do not live in city limits you will not be allowed to use the dumpsters! Cleanup days will be held Tuesday and Wednesday, Sept 4 and 5 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Dumpsters will be located behind City Hall and all items with the exception of tires, appliances, batteries, paint cans, hazardous waste products, or dead animals will be accepted.

Crab Orchard Fall City Wide Yard Sale

The City of Crab Orchard will have its annual Fall City Wide Yard Sale on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, August 30, August 31 and September 1. No Yard Sale Permits will be required for these days.

Health Department closed for Labor Day

The Lincoln County Health Department will be closed on Monday, September 3 in observance of the Labor Day holiday.

Butchertown Country Day Festival

Butchertown Country Day Festival will be held Saturday, Sept. 8 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Butchertown Community Center. There will be live music by Randy Douglas and “Still Voice” from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Activities include nail driving and hay bale toss contests (men and women), cake walks, an auction, country store, yard sale and children’s games. Food will be available inside and outside of the center (ham biscuits, pinto beans, cornbread, curly potatoes, hot dogs, burgers, homemade desserts). A drawing will also be held for a quilt made by Community Center ladies. Free admission. All proceeds benefit the community center.

LC Farm Bureau annual meeting/picnic

The Lincoln County Farm Bureau annual meeting and picnic will be held Thursday, Sept. 6 at the Lincoln County Farm Bureau Center and Fairgrounds starting at 6:30 p.m. Cost is $1 per person. Those attending will enjoy a steak dinner followed by a business meeting. Business will include election of directors and officers and discussion of policy issues and resolutions. There will also be music by Samuel Bullock, inflatable slides for kids and door prizes. All member families are encouraged to attend.

Coffman-Brown reunion

The Coffman-Brown reunion will be held Saturday, September 1 at Hustonville Baptist Church. The meal will be served at 3 p.m. Guests are asked to bring a dish to share with everyone. Paper products and drinks will be provided. Call (606) 365-8369.

Distinguished Young Women ticket sales

Tickets are on sale for the 2019 Lincoln County Distinguished Young Women Scholarship Program. The event will be held on Saturday, Sept. 8, at 6:30 p.m. in the Stuart Underwood Auditorium at Lincoln County High School. Tickets are $10 each and may be purchased by calling (606) 365-9782. Ottenheim Community Picnic

The Ottenheim Community Picnic will be held Sunday, Sept. 2 at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Potluck lunch will start at 1:30 p.m. Bring a dish (chicken, hamburgers, hot dogs, drinks, utensils and plates will be provided); 2 p.m. will have live gospel music by Donnie Rodgers and Canoe Creek; and 3 p.m. will be a benefit auction (donated items are welcome). Rain or shine, bring a friend and a chair! If you are unable to attend, donations are welcome to help with upkeep of the historical building. Hopkins Family reunion

The 54th annual Ewell and Ella Saylor Hopkins family reunion will be held Saturday, September 1 in the large pavilion at the William Whitley House near Crab Orchard. The reunion will begin at 11 a.m. and the potluck lunch will be start at noon. Soft drinks and water will be provided. Bring a covered dish and come and see old acquaintances. Lanigan Family reunion

The Lanigan Family reunion will be held Saturday, September 1 at the Eubank Senior Citizen building. Doors open at 11 a.m. and reunion will run until 5 p.m.

Computer Class at LCPL

Registration for Computer Classes at Lc Public Library is currently open. Call (606) 365-7513 or stop by the library to sign up as space is limited. On Tuesday, September 11 at 1 p.m. participants will cover an “Introduction to the Internet”; Tuesday, September 18 will be “Exploring the Internet”; Tuesday, September 25 will be “Gmail.” *Participants must know computer basics like using a mouse and keyboard.

Trick or Treat

Stanford Baptist Church is partnering with the Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce for this year’s Trick or Treat. The event will be held at the Stanford Baptist Church Christian Life Center, CLC from 6-8:30 p.m. Inside table space is limited. If your business or organization would like to set up a table, call 365-2178 to reserve your spot.

2018 Home Canning Series

The next session in the 2018 Home Canning Series hosted by the Lincoln County Extension Office will be grape jelly, Sept. 11 at 10 a.m. at the extension office. Call (606) 365-2447 to register.

NEA Big Read

Pick up your copy of In the Time of the Butterflies at the Lincoln County Public Library for the NEA Big Read. Special events including a Salsa Soiree, cooking class, and Skype visit with author Julia Alvarez are scheduled for October. Pick up a full calendar of events today.

Lincoln County Farmers Market is open Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. or sold out at the Veterans Ball Park (Hwy 150 going toward Crab Orchard on left).
