Mary Joe Anderson Andre’ Carpenter, 83, of Stanford, passed away Thursday, November 15, 2018 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville. She was the widow of Army Lt. David H. Andre and also Army Lt. Glen D. Carpenter of Danville. Mary Jo was the daughter of late Henry Sherman and Mary Reed Chancellor Anderson of Stanford. Raised in Stanford, she graduated from Stanford High School in 1953.
Mary Joe received an Associate in Arts degree from Stephens College, Columbia, Missouri, and a Bachelor of Music in Education degree from Northwestern University, in Evanston, Illinois. Mary Joe was a member of Sigma Gamma Gamma honorary music sorority, Sigma Alpha Iota professional music sorority and Chi Omega social sorority. She also belonged to The Logan-Whitley Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Harris Memorial Methodist Church in Stanford.
Mary Joe taught public school music at Fort Knox, Ky., and Killeen, Texas. She held church organ positions at Fort Knox, Ky., Killeen, Texas, Fort Hood, Texas, Baumholder, Germany, and Lexington, Ky.
Survivors include three sons, David H. Andre’ (Mary) of Livingston, Texas, William G. Andre’ (Christi) of Cordova, Tenn., and Timothy L. Andre’ of Louisville; and four grandchildren, Dave, Cameron, Lane and Haley.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Army Lt. Col. David H. Andre, Sr., as well as her second husband, Army Lt. Glen D. Carpenter; and a daughter, Mary Charlotte Andre’.
Graveside services were held Sunday, Nov. 18, 2018 at Buffalo Springs Cemetery in Stanford, with Bro. Jason Coulter officiating the service.
