Seniors Zack Hazlett and Alexa Wesley racked up wins for Lincoln County track and field in the Mercer County All-Comers meet at Alvis Johnson Field before spring break.

In a field of 27 athletes, it was Hazlett posting the fastest time in the 400-meter dash. The senior sprinter finished almost two seconds ahead of his closest competitor, crossing in 54.40 seconds.

Lincoln dominated the boys 400, as it turned out to be a 1-2-4-5-6-8 finish for the Patriots. Finishing behind Hazlett in second place was teammate Carlton Randall, who was timed at 56.19 seconds. His brother, Calvin Randall, claimed fourth in 56.95 seconds, Dalyn Pope crossed in fifth place in 57.23 seconds, Bricen Alcorn ran sixth in 59.56 seconds and Austin Wethington ran eighth in 1:00.22.

Two inches separated Wesley and the runner-up in the girls high jump field event. Wesley, a senior, won with a height of 4-08. Bella Garrett of Mercer County finished second with a jump of 4-06.00. Wesley would also fare well in the triple jump event, placing third overall with a jump of 27-06.00.

The Lincoln girls scored in 12 different events throughout the meet and finished third overall out of nine teams. Host Mercer County won easily with 216 points, East Jessamine was second with 89 points and Lincoln had 72. In the boys division, the Patriots, who scored in nine different events, placed fifth out of 10 teams with 61 points. Danville won with 133 points, Southwestern followed with 104.5 points and East Jessamine was third with 82 points.

Just like the Patriots, the Lady Patriots claimed several of the top spots in the 400-meter dash, with McKenzie Settles, Zaria Napier and Bailey Story claiming three of the top six spots. Settles finished third overall in a time of 1:07.75 and Napier was right behind her in fourth in a time of 1:09.50 and Story placed sixth in 1:11.14.

Settles and Napier were Lincoln’s only scoring runners in the dash. Typically, points are awarded for first through sixth place, however, with many teams entering several athletes in an event, only two from each school can score.

Settles and Story scored in more than one event, teaming up with Constance Johnson and Shayley Reed to claim the runner-up spot in the girls 4×800 relay. The team finished in 11:18.61. Host Mercer County won with a time of 10:45.29.

There would be several other Lincoln athletes scoring in multiple events.

For the Lady Patriots, Johnson scored in three events, adding a third-place finish in the 1600-meter run and a fifth-place effort in the 300-meter hurdles to her runner-up relay. She had a time of 6:16.06 in the 1600 and 58.95 seconds in the hurdles. Alexis Slone ran second in the 3200-meter run in a time of 13:46.33 and she added a fourth-place finish in the 1600-meter run in 6:17.84. In addition to their relay runner-up finish, Napier and Settles also scored in dashes, with Napier placing sixth in 13.97 seconds in the 100 and Settles taking fifth in the 200 in 29.49 seconds. And rounding out the list is field competitor Suzan Johnson who placed fourth in discus with a throw of 75-04.00 and was sixth in shot put with a throw of 23-08.50.

The other Lady Pats scoring in the meet included Keri Kidd, Jasmine Steele and Ava Morgan. Kidd finished fifth in discus with a distance of 65-04.00, Steele ran sixth in the 3200-meter run in 16:06.73 and Morgan ran seventh in the 800-meter dash in 2:54.37.

Patriots scoring in more than one event included Gabe Singleton, Jordan Greer, Carlton Randall and Malcolm Wright.

Singleton and Greer were a part of the Patriots’ second-place running 3200-meter relay team. The two and teammates Dalton Patterson and Trace Taylor posted a time of 10:15.46. Greer and Singleton also scored in the 1600-meter run, with Greer placing eighth overall in 5:43.59 and Singleton running ninth in 5:45.31. Randall, who was the 400 runner-up, placed fourth in the 100-meter dash, finishing in 11.59 seconds. Wright scored his points both on and off the track. He finished second in the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 18.52 seconds then earned fifth in the high jump event with a jump of 5-02.00.
