STANFORD — Looking to have a fair time next week?
In just four days, Lincoln County residents and other visitors will be able to enjoy the tastes, smells and thrills that come with the county fair, as the 2019 edition of the Lincoln County Fair begins its six-day run Monday, July 1, at the Lincoln County Fairgrounds, located three miles south of Stanford on U.S. 27.
During those six days, contests of beauty, talent and breeding will render winners, bulls will buck and engines will roar on the Thunder Valley Motorsport Track and thrill seekers will get their fill of exciting rides and games on the Kissel Entertainment Midway.
Food is always a big hit come fair time and it’s a good bet that bellies will be bulging next week with all the fine eats that the fair provides. From the beefburger, ribeye steak sandwich, hot dog and popcorn orders at the fair board concessions and the varied fare along the midway, fair-goers will have plenty of choices to satisfy their hunger.
As most people know, though, the fair is more than food. The Lincoln County Fair annually provides a wide variety of fun shows and contests to entertain people of every age.
Some of the more popular events returning to the Lincoln County Fairgrounds are the Bull Whip Rodeo, demolition derby, diesel truck and tractor pulls and United States Wrestling Federation matches.
The first action on the Thunder Valley Motorsport Track is the Bull Whip Rodeo, with ropers, bull riders, bronc busters and barrel racers stirring up the red clay on opening night Monday at 7 p.m.. Also on track are two nights of demolition derby and three nights of pulls. The demolition derby will be held Tuesday and Wednesday, July 2 and 3, the KOTTPA KY Outlaw Pulling Series is the feature event on Thursday, July 4 then KTPA Truck and Tractor Pulls follow on Friday and Saturday, July 5 and 6. Each of these events gets underway at 7:30 p.m.
The United States Wrestling Federation matches, which are scheduled for a two-night run at this year’s fair, are a sport but the action will take place in the pageant building, Friday and Saturday, July 5 and 6. Friday’s action starts at 8 p.m. and the bell rings on Saturday’s first match at 7:30.
The fair also shows its prettier side through a variety of beauty contests. The contests span four nights, with titles handed out for Mrs. Lincoln County Fair, Miss Lincoln County Fair, Miss Pre-Teen, Miss Teen, Little Miss and Mister,Tiny Tots and in the Baby Show.
Three new contests have been added to this year’s slate of events, with the Zero Turn Mower Driving Contest, the Back Pack Blower Contest and the Nail Driving Contest all new to the lineup. All three events will be held near the basketball court.
The cost of bringing all the shows to the fairgrounds has not led to a gate increase, with $10 per person still covering gate admission and all rides.
