MORELAND — A man was struck and killed by a Norfolk Southern train Saturday morning in Moreland.
Lincoln County Coroner Farris Marcum identified the male victim as 48-year-old Scott Alan Boyd of Junction City.
Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputy Michael Mullins said that at 2:53 a.m. Saturday emergency units were called out to the tracks behind Troy Avenue for a subject that had been struck by a train.
As units from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Lincoln County Fire Station 3, Lincoln County EMS and the Boyle County Sheriff’s Office arrived, a male subject was located near the tracks.
According to Marcum, who pronounced Boyd deceased at the scene, the victim was walking northbound on the Norfolk Southern railroad tracks off U.S. 127, when he was hit by a southbound train.
The engineer on the train reportedly told investigators he saw Boyd on the edge of the track but was unable to stop the train.
The investigation is ongoing.
