If you have plans to visit the William Whitley House before Thanksgiving, you’re out of luck.
The staff of William Whitley House gave the final regular tours of the 2019 season on Saturday, Oct. 26, so now the historic home is closed until the spring.
The home will reopen at the start of the 2020 season on April 16.
Restrooms at the shelter on the William Whitley House property are also closed. They were closed for winterization on Nov. 1 and will remain closed until April 1, 2020.
While the house is closed, the grounds and trails remain open. They are open year round weather permitting.
Reservations for shelters for the 2020 season can be made starting now by calling the Lincoln County Courthouse at 606-365-2533 or sending an email to jvanhook@lincolnky.com.
While closed for the season, the William Whitley House doors will open again for a special open house on Dec. 14 and 15 as part of the Christmas on Wilderness Road celebration. Tours of the house will be available on Saturday, Dec. 14, from 4 to 7 p.m. and again on Sunday, Dec. 15, from 2 to 5 p.m.
The event may be canceled due to inclement weather.
