As former educators, the members of the Lincoln County Retired Teachers Association know how important it is to educate children. They also know that the welfare of each child is equally important, and that is why they have taken it upon themselves to help in the fight against child hunger.
At their September meeting, the LCRTA members collected items for the backpack program for the Crab Orchard Elementary School Family Resource Center. They collected several bags of food items, plus donated over $150 from members toward ending child hunger.
When they met again in October, members collected school supplies and also donated cash to the Hustonville Family Resource Center. A generous $50 donation from AARP was split between the school supplies drive and the backpack program, with $25 going to each.
This backpack/school supply drive is an annual project with the Kentucky Retired Teachers Association and AARP-KY to help those struggling to put food on the table.
