Mattingly hits 7 3’s in loss at LexCath

LEXINGTON — Lincoln County’s Baylor Mattingly drained seven 3-pointers for a game-high 21 points Tuesday night at Lexington Catholic, but it wouldn’t be enough as the No. 9 Knights beat the No. 13 Patriots 73-57.
The two teams traded leads in the first quarter, with Lincoln up 16-15 at the end of the period.
Riley Bodner, who finished with 10 points and nine rebounds, hit inside to open the second quarter to make it 18-16 but LexCath answered with a 19-3 run to go on top to stay.
The Knights (26-2) shot 59 percent from the field (29-for-49, 5-for-13 from 3) with Luke Wedding leading the team with 20 points. Jackson Smith added 16 points, Ben Johnson had 14 and Jack Gohmann had 12.
The Patriots (22-7) shot 45 percent overall (19-for-42, 12-for-22 from 3). Elijah Frye also hit double figures for Lincoln with 15 points.
At the foul line, Lincoln was 7-for-12 and LexCath, 10-for-13.
