Debbie Demrow, of Liberty, formerly of Waynesburg, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 10, 2022, at her home after courageously battling cancer for many years. She was 69.
Born June 18, 1953, in Detroit, Michigan, she was the daughter of the late Bert and Phyllis Calhoun Smallwood. Debbie retired from Lincoln County High School, where she was the front desk secretary and Cheerleading coach for many years. Debbie was a member of the Pleasant View Baptist Church and the Fort Logan Hospital Auxiliary. In her younger years, Debbie enjoyed playing softball.
Debbie loved her grandchildren, the Kentucky Wildcats, Christmas, entertaining friends and family, cooking, TJ Maxx, riding her John Deere gator, her cats, dressing up at Halloween, traveling (especially for UK Basketball), a clean house, calligraphy, a good book, a glass of wine, epic yard sales at her home in Waynesburg, playing in the creek, cheerleading, the Beatles, and going for a ride with Bill, whether it was on the motorcycle, in the corvette, or in the truck.
Debbie leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Bill, whom she married over 50 years ago on September 2, 1972; son, Curt (and Jaime) Demrow of Liberty; daughter, Jenny (and Jimmy) Maloy of Somerset; her grandchildren, who referred to her as Nana: Molly Demrow, Gracie Demrow, Aidan Maloy, Brayli Maloy, and Sophie Demrow; brothers, Billy (and Pam) Smallwood of Berea and Adam (and Christa) Smallwood of New Albany, IN; sister, Angie Scott of Indiana; and best friends, Pat (and the late Benny) Gabbert of Waynesburg and Kaye (and Tommy) Davis of Stanford.
Funeral services will be held at 7:00 PM on Monday, November 14, 2022, at Pleasant View Baptist Church, 13571 KY 1247, Waynesburg, KY 40489 with Bro. Vola Brown officiating. Burial will be held privately in the Buffalo Springs Cemetery.
There will be a visitation on Monday from 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Pleasant View Baptist Church.
Pallbearers will be Billy Smallwood, Adam Smallwood, Jimmy Maloy, Aidan Maloy, Jason Hurt, and Raymond Schuler. Honorary pallbearers will be her former LCHS Cheerleaders.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests to please donate in Debbie’s memory to Hospice of Lake Cumberland, 100 Parkway Drive, Somerset, KY 42503.
