STANFORD – A juvenile employee at Dairy Queen was stabbed in the throat and abdomen by a coworker last week, according to Stanford Police. 

The store was closed early Wednesday, May 29, due to the violent incident that occurred at about 4:30 p.m. That’s when police were called the scene of a reported stabbing. 

When SPD Officer James Mayfield arrived on scene he observed a female trying to leave the scene and another female attempting to stop her. 

Rachel J. Sanchez, 20, of Stanford was identified as the perpetrator and taken into custody. 

“The weapon that was used was a long fixed blade knife that was found outside the building laying on a brick wall,” the citation states. “Once inside the building I observed blood in several areas of the kitchen area.” 

Mayfield found the female victim who was covered in blood and had lacerations to her neck area and puncture wounds to her abdomen. 

The victim was treated by EMS and transported to a local hospital before being airlifted to a different medical facility with serious injuries. 

Sanchez was taken to the police station to be interviewed by Mayfield and Detective Joe Gilliland. 

“Sanchez advised the other employee was giving her strange looks and she did not like it,” the citation states. 

Sanchez left the restaurant and traveled to her residence on Goshen Cutoff where she allegedly retrieved the knife. 

“Sanchez then advised she returned back to Dairy Queen where the other employee was and began assaulting her with the knife,” the citation states. “Sanchez advised she remembered cutting her throat at least twice then stabbing her in the stomach.” 

The victim fell to the ground and Sanchez attempted to leave. 

The Dairy Queen manager attempted to stop the altercation and received a cut on her wrist, according to police. She also stopped Sanchez from leaving the scene. 

“Sanchez advised myself and Detective Gilliland that this had been going on for a while and that when she went home to get the knife that it was her intention to return to the restaurant and kill the other employee to stop the evil,” the citation states. “Sanchez advised she was on medications for being Schizophrenic, having anxiety and PTSD.” 

The stabbing victim was still being treated for injuries as of Monday this week, but was in stable condition, according to SPD Chief Zach Middleton. 

Sanchez was booked in the Pulaski County Detention Center on charges of attempted murder and first-degree assault.
