A man who was reported missing was found dead in a creek bed Friday, according to the Lincoln County Coroner.
First responders from multiple agencies had been searching for Milliard “Clem” Mason, 61, who was reported missing on Oct. 1.
On Friday, Oct. 4, search efforts continued and led to the discovery of Mason in a creek bed near Robertstown Road in Kings Mountain.
Lincoln County Coroner Farris Marcum said Mason was found in a creek bed a few hundred yards away from his house.
No foul play is suspected, Marcum said.
An autopsy was conducted Saturday, Oct. 5 and concluded Mason died due to accidental drowning.
The death occurred some time between midnight on Sept. 30 and the early morning hours of Oct. 1, Marcum said.
“He didn’t have any shoes on. I think he may have had some kind of psychotic event,” he said. “I don’t think we’ll ever be able to tell.”
Mason was pronounced dead at about 11:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 4.
Toxicology results were still pending as of Monday this week.
