Jess Clarkson, Jr., 96, of Waynesburg, Kentucky passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2021. Born on Oct. 24, 1924, in McKinney, Ky., to the late Jess Clarkson, Sr. and Tabitha Young Clarkson. He was the widower to the late Gladys Marie Greer Clarkson. Jess was a member of Pleasant Point Church in Waynesburg, KY for many years where he had been Church Superintendent and a Sunday School Teacher. He served in the Army from July 1943 until 1945 during WWII. He was a prisoner of war for 7 1/2 months. Jess, Jr. (Papa) would like his family to remember him as a God-fearing man. He was taught good values and tried to live by them, Jr. had a special place (under a tree) and he went there every day to study God’s Word. Survivors include two sons, Bobbie Clarkson (Karen) of Waynesburg, KY and Marlin Clarkson of Waynesburg, KY; one daughter, Joyce Dowell (Walter) of Waynesburg, Ky.; five grandchildren, Paula Hutchens, Pamela Wilder, Bobby Jay Clarkson, Candi Spencer, and Marlin “Marty” Clarkson. Ten great-grandchildren, Ty Hutchens, Jacqueline Hazelwood, Chase Wilder, Kaylin Clarkson, Madelin Clarkson, Danielle Spencer, Hanna Spencer, Kamren Jones, Kennedy Clarkson and Chloe Clarkson; and two great-great-grandchildren, River Jones and Ava Jones. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Marie Greer Clarkson, and parents, Jess and Tabitha Clarkson. Visitation has been scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2021 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Spurlin Funeral Home in Stanford, Ky. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Spurlin Funeral Home in Stanford, Ky., with Bro. David Gambrel officiating. Burial will follow at K.P. Hall Cemetery in Kings Mountain, Kentucky. Full Military Honors will be presented by Caswell Saufley Post 18.
