Leah Mischelle Merkel, 19, of Crab Orchard, Kentucky passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2021. Born on May 23, 2002, in Danville, Kentucky, to Kris Merkel and Cassandra Griffin. Leah was so many wonderful things to so many wonderful people. She was a loving mother, daughter, sister and niece. Leah loved her friends and family including those who she cared for at her job. She made so many people proud of her. She was very hardworking and determined to make something of herself for her and her baby girl. Leah was a CNA at Stanford Care and Rehabilitation Center. She was also a student attending classes to become a registered nurse.
Leah is survived by her daughter, Raelyn Grace Day (11 months old); parents, Cassandra Griffin (Brandon) of Crab Orchard, Kentucky, and Kristopher Merkel (Amanda) of Hustonville, Kentucky; grandparents, Stacy Durham of Crab Orchard, Kentucky, and Tim Durham (Renee) of Liberty, Kentucky; brothers, Landon Merkel, Tommy Griffin and Dillion Griffin, all of Crab Orchard, Kentucky; sisters, Jenna Merkel of Hustonville, Kentucky, Haylee Griffin, Madison Griffin and Shay Griffin of Crab Orchard, Kentucky; aunts, Erin Merkel (Jeremy) of Louisville, Kentucky, and Kayla Durham of Crab Orchard, Kentucky; uncles, Andrew Merkel (Jennifer) of Azle, Texas, and Travis Griffin (Reanay) of Crab Orchard, Kentucky; many foster brothers and sisters; several nieces and nephews; and many more close family members she loved dearly including her better half of six years, Christopher Day of Crab Orchard, Kentucky.
She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Leeza Lea Long.
Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 29, 2021, from 5-8 p.m. at Spurlin Funeral Home in Stanford, Kentucky. Funeral will be held on Monday, August 30, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at Spurlin Funeral Home in Stanford, Kentucky. With Bro. Vola Brown officiating. Burial will follow at the Griffin Family Cemetery.
Active Pallbearers are Landon Merkel, Sean Propes, Tommy Griffin, Brayden Foster, Carson Foster and Austin Price.
