Highland Elementary wins District Governor’s Cup

The Highland Elementary School academic team was the overall champion at the District Governor’s Cup held on Saturday, Feb. 11.
Highland, led by coach Joy Robertson, won the overall competition with 42.5 points for the day. The Quick Recall team finished as runner-up, advancing the team to regional competition.
Several students won medals in the written assessment portion of the competition, with Hallie Mullins, Maecey Carrier, Gavin Lewis, Austin Pennington, Caden Bastin, Austin Pennington, Lindsay Bryant, Nikki Mounce and Brooklyn Adams all placing in the top five.
Hallie Mullins won first place in the Mathematics assessment and Maecey Carrier captured the fourth-place spot. Carrier also picked up a third-place win in Social Studies.
Highland had three top five students in the Science competition, with Gavin Lewis winning first place, Austin Pennington following in third place and Caden Bastin taking fifth place.
Pennington moved up a spot in the area of Social Studies, garnering the runner-up spot.
In the Language Arts competition, Lindsay Bryant scored second place while Nikki Mounce placed fifth.
Highland finished 1-2 in Arts and Humanities, with Brooklyn Adams taking first and Mounce finishing second.
Adams also scored in two events at district, adding a fifth-place finish in English Composition.
The school gave a special thanks to Coach Robertson for her daily work with the students in preparing them for the competition, congratulated the team on a great day of competition at district and wished the team the best of luck at regionals.
