STANFORD – The Stanford Police Department made 14 arrests in August and wrote 152 citations, according to a monthly report provided to the Stanford City Council last week.

From Aug. 1 to Aug. 31, SPD reported a total of 782 contacts through 911. Police officers gave 58 warnings during that time frame and responded to 29 accidents. There were 41 incidents/cases reported in August.

To date, SPD has made 174 arrests since Jan. 1, and has written 1,450 citations. Officers have responded to a total of 171 accidents since the beginning of the year. A total of 403 training hours for the department have been reported since January.

Police Chief Zach Middleton updated council members on the new School Resource Officer contract recently approved by the Lincoln County Board of Education. The contract adds three more SRO’s to the contract, bringing the total to seven.

Middleton said it will take some time to fill the positions as it was an unexpected change to the contract.

The additions change the total cost of the SRO program from $171,000 to $320,000 per school year. The school district will also be responsible for purchasing two police vehicles for the SRO division.

The Stanford Fire Department also provided council members with a monthly activity report.

From Aug. 1 to Aug. 31, SFD responded to a total of 98 incidents.

SFD responded to the following types of incidents:

• Fires – 3

• Rescue & Emergency Medical Service – 38

• Hazardous Condition (no fire) – 3

• Service Call – 5

• Good Intent Call – 10

• False Alarm & False Call – 9

• Special Incident Type – 30

Ryan Owens, General Manager of Stanford Water Works informed City Council members that the Water Commission voted to take the CPI (Consumer Price Index) increase allowed by ordinance to help offset the continued increase of doing business.

Owens said the increase will be 4.9% on both water and sewer bills for in town and out of town customers. The increase will be on the bills that go out Oct. 1.

Owens also said work has begun on Phase 1a of the sewer rehabilitation project.

Stanford Code Enforcement also submitted a monthly activity report.

According to the report, there were 12 violations reported in Aug. and 26 verbal warnings were given.

Code Enforcement wrote two citations and reported one abatement.

There were two building permits issued, as well as one demolition permit and one swimming pool permit. A total of our deck/porch permits were issued in Aug.

Code Enforcement granted one certificate of occupancy and reviewed two plats.

A total of 30 business licenses were issued or renewed in August.
