Tyler McGuffey has been appointed by the Lincoln County Board of Education to fill the vacant District 1 seat until November.

The seat was left open following the unexpected death of District 1 Board Member Marvin Wilson who passed away on April 6.

School board members went into executive session for about two hours Thursday night before returning to vote on filling the vacancy. The motion to appoint McGuffey was made by Christine Killen and seconded by Jennifer Broadbent. The vote was unanimous.

McGuffey and his wife are residents of the Hustonville area, along with their three children, according to a statement from the school district.

“He is a 2011 graduate of Lincoln County High School. After high school he received degrees from Eastern Kentucky University and Campbellsville University,” the statement reads. “He is now a special education teacher at John W. Bate Middle School.”

McGuffey said he is honored to have the opportunity to serve the people of Lincoln County.

“I will work tirelessly to be an accessible and reasonable voice for our school board,” he said. “It is a special honor to serve Hustonville and Moreland, as I have called this community home my entire life. The opportunity to serve in this capacity means a great deal to me.”

McGuffey’s grandfather, Lloyd McGuffey, served on the Lincoln County School board for 35 years from 1954 until his death in 1989, according to WPBK-FM radio station. During the last 15 years of his service he was chairman of the board.

Tyler McGuffey will fill the District 1 vacancy until the November general election. The winner of the November election will fulfill the remaining two years of Wilson’s term.
