Superintendent receives ‘exemplary’ evaluation

STANFORD – With nearly a year under his belt as Lincoln County’s Superintendent, Michael Rowe received the results of a formal evaluation from school board members during last week’s meeting.
Out of seven standards, Rowe picked out three standards to be evaluated on – strategic leadership, instructional leadership and managerial leadership. Board Chairman Tom Blankenship read the results of the evaluation Thursday night.
There were four categories which board members could use to grade the superintendent on a scale of one to five – one being the lowest and five being the highest – including growth required, developing, accomplished and exemplary.
For strategic leadership, four board members gave Rowe an “exemplary” grade while the fifth board member rated him “accomplished.”
“Weekly board message(s) are very informative,” stated comments from board members included in the evaluation documentation. “Willing to stand behind the board members’ decisions. Building program through the district.”
Other comments said Rowe maintained good communication and transparency with the board and was eager to help by backing up his findings.
Examples of his leadership included strategic planning, teacher advisory and classified advisory, as well as a monthly principal meeting.
Under instructional leadership, all five board members rated Rowe “exemplary.”
“Continuously trying to build on what we have (and) striving to be better,” were some of the comments listed under instructional leadership. “Gives good ideas to leaders, brainstorming with others to build great schools.”
“I know where his heart’s at in regards to better education by having children himself that are currently in school and a long history of working in special education, he’s on top of that,” Blankenship said.
Saving money, seeing projects finished and working on committees while building the school district’s budget are reasons board members gave for giving Rowe a high rating for his managerial leadership.
Other comments noted Rowe is “very budget-oriented,” exemplified by the development of a district budget committee.
Rowe spoke to board members following the review of the evaluation results.
“I want to thank you all, you’ve been great to work with,” Rowe said. “I look forward to our continued partnership.”
