Delbert Lee Godby, 73, of Waynesburg, KY passed away on Sunday, January 19, 2025 at Marcum & Wallace Hospital in Irvine, KY. Born on October 27, 1951 in Indianapolis, IN to the late Kenneth and Lottie Finley Godby.
Delbert was a proud farmer who loved his land as much as he loved his community. His favorite part about farming was growing tobacco. His passion for farming extended to home, where he would always grow a big garden. Delbert’s love for his community was evident in his daily routine of visiting his neighbors on his golf cart, sharing stories, laughter, and the fruits of his labor. He was also an avid fan of Kentucky Wildcats Basketball, a passion he nurtured from his days playing basketball at Crab Orchard High School. His dedication and strong work ethic were not confined to his farm. Delbert was a loyal employee at Phillips Lighting in Danville, KY, where he worked for over three decades before his retirement. His diligence and commitment to his role were a testament to his character and integrity. He was a member of Parlor Grove Baptist Church in Waynesburg, KY.
He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Theresa Godby of Richmond, KY; two daughters, Stacy Godbey of Stanford and Vanna Hobbs (Richard) of London, KY; one sister, Jannie Wilson of Irvine, KY; three grandchildren, Derek Jones, Tramane Alcorn and Mollie Hobbs; two great-grandchildren, Bentley and Tobias; and three nephews, Lee Simpson (Whitney) of Culpepper, VA, Jeremy Simpson (Stacie) of Irvine, KY and Austen Godby of Covington, KY.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Lottie Godby; one brother, Jack Godby; and one brother-in-law, Larry Wilson.
A private family burial will be held at a later date.
