The inaugural Lake Cumberland 12-under, 10-under Fun Tennis Tournament will be held in Somerset July 31 and Aug. 1.
The junior tournament is designed for beginners who have played some tennis or attended a workshop but who might be experiencing tournament play for the first time.
Players from the service area of the Lake Cumberland Tennis Association (LCTA) are especially encouraged to register. The area includes Pulaski, Russell, Lincoln, McCreary, Wayne and Rockcastle Counties.
Players in the 10-and- under division must be 8, 9, or 10 at the time of the tournament. Players will use orange balls (made especially for 10 and under) and play on a 60-ft. court (also designed for 10-and-under players).
Players in the 12-and- under division must be no older than 12 at the time of the tournament. Players will use green dot balls (made especially for 12 and under) and full-sized courts.
The tournament will be held at Hopkins Elementary School in downtown Somerset.
An official will be present at each match to help players avoid confusion and keep the match moving, but players should already know the basics of keeping score.
Registration deadline is July 27 at 9 p.m. Players need to be available to play anytime between the hours of 6 and 8:45 p.m. July 31 and Aug. 1. It is expected that the tournament will conclude on Aug. 1, but in case of rain or extended play due to turnout, the tournament will resume Aug. 3 and 4, same time.
Entry fee is $10, which will go toward purchasing awards and tournament supplies. Any leftover proceeds will go to the LCTA.
To enter, send child’s name, age, and birthdate to Dwain Harris at dwain42728@yahoo.com, or message the LCTA via Facebook.
