The Lincoln County Middle School boys basketball teams have good news to report from the hardwood, getting in some hoops action before the winter storm arrived.

The Eagles went 8-1 collectively as the sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade teams swept Danville Bate Middle School and Mercer County Middle School and went 2-1 at Boyle County Middle School.

The latest outing, which was played the day before the snow, ice and frigid temperatures set in, resulted in one of the sweeps, with the Eagles going 3-0 at Danville Bate. The only blemish on the record in the three outings was a loss to Boyle in eighth-grade action.

6th Grade
Lincoln 47, Bate 32

Danville Bate Middle held the early advantage in the sixth-grade game, but Lincoln outscored the host Bulldogs 28-14 over the second and third quarters to set itself on course for a 47-32 victory.

The Bulldogs showed a 10-9 edge at the end of the first quarter only to have the Eagles outscore them 14-6 in the second quarter to post a 23-16 halftime lead then follow with a 14-8 scoring run in the third to take a double-digit lead, 37-24, into the final period.

Lincoln edged Bate 10-8 in the fourth to earn the 15-point win.

Seth Horton led Lincoln in the win with 13 points. Jackson Withrow contributed nine points, Sawyer Horton had eight points and six rebounds, Connor Davis added seven points with three assists, Blade Nuckols had six points and three steals and Elan Lane and Skyler Thompson each had two points.

The Lincoln sixth-graders, led by coach Steve Ralston, are currently 23-6 (12-1 Salt River Conference).

7th Grade
Lincoln 55, Bate 40

Layne Lark, Tramane Alcorn and Zack Moore combined for 43 points and 25 rebounds in the seventh-grade Eagles’ 55-40 win at Danville Bate Middle.

Lark led all scorers with 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Alcorn and Moore both followed with 12 points. Alcorn also had eight rebounds and four assists and Moore had nine boards.

Lincoln held Bate to single digits in the first two quarters, opening on a 15-4 run then going 13-7 in the second quarter for a 28-11 halftime advantage. The Eagles outscored Bate 18-13 in the third period to extend their lead to 46-24 going into the fourth quarter.

Bate would outpoint Lincoln in the final frame, holding the Eagles to single digits. However, the Bulldogs’ 16-9 advantage was too little, too late.

Colton Ralston finished with seven points, four assists and five steals for Lincoln and Jansen McAninch had six points.

The seventh-grade Eagles, who are coached by Carl-Lewis Cummins, are currently 25-3 (13-0 SRC).

8th Grade
Lincoln 56, Bate 46 (OT)

Three Eagle eighth-graders hit double figures at Danville Bate and two double-doubled as Lincoln handed its host a 56-46 loss in overtime.

Lee Amon double-doubled with a game-high 18 points and 15 rebounds. He also had three steals. Clayton Davis poured in 13 points for the Eagles and Colin Green earned a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Green also had four assists and three blocks.

The Eagles led 10-6 at the end of the first quarter but found themselves on the losing side of the scoreboard at the half and at the close of the third period, with Bate outscoring Lincoln 20-11 in the second quarter to post a 26-21 lead then going 12-10 in the third for a 38-31 margin.

Lincoln surged in the fourth quarter, though, outscoring Bate 13-6 to deadlock the game at 44-all and force the overtime.

Bate never threatened in the extra period as Lincoln outscored its host 12-2 to claim the win.

Lawson Hon and Tramane Alcorn scored five points apiece for Lincoln and Cruise Wilson had four points, four assists and three blocks.

Lincoln’s eighth-graders, who are led by Eric Ralston, are currently 20-7 (11-2 SRC).

6th Grade
Lincoln 41, Boyle 35

The Lincoln sixth-grade boys emerged as victors in a closely-contested Salt River Conference game, outlasting host Boyle County Middle 41-35.

Blade Nuckols and Seth Horton both finished in double figures in the win, with Nuckols leading the Eagles with 13 points and Horton following with 12 points.
Boyle nosed ahead of Lincoln 10-8 in the first period and used an 11-10 second-quarter scoring edge to post a 21-18 halftime lead.

The scoring was even at 8-all in the third quarter but Lincoln surged in the closing period, outscoring Boyle 15-6 for the win.

Connor Davis finished with nine points, four assists and six steals, Sawyer Horton had five points and Jackson Withrow had two points. Elan Lane grabbed eight rebounds.

7th Grade
Lincoln 36, Boyle 24

Lincoln’s seventh-grade Eagles overcame a sluggish start to beat Boyle County 36-24.

The Eagles were just down 10-9 after the first, but a scoreless second quarter left them with an 18-9 halftime deficit.

Lincoln would not go away, though, with the Eagles burning the nets for 27 second-half points while holding Boyle to single digits. Lincoln outscored Boyle 14-4 to nose ahead 23-22 heading into the fourth quarter then closed on a 13-2 run to earn the double-digit win.

Tramane Alcorn paced Lincoln in the win with 14 points and three assists. Layne Lark added eight points, Zack Moore had six points, nine rebounds and three assists, Colton Ralston also had six points with three assists and Trevor Miracle had two points. Jansen McAninch had four steals.

8th Grade
Boyle 53, Lincoln 31

Lincoln County could not make it a sweep in the road trip to Boyle County, as the host Eagles handed the visiting Eagles a 53-31 loss.

Lincoln fell behind 11-4 in the first quarter and faced a double-digit deficit at the half. Boyle outpointed Lincoln 18-8 in the second quarter to post a 29-12 lead at the break.

Lincoln played Boyle to a closer game in the second half, but Boyle still held the scoring advantage (12-10 and 12-9) to seal the lopsided win.

Clayton Davis was Lincoln’s leading scorer in the loss, finishing with 12 points. Tramane Alcorn had six points and six rebounds in the game, Colin Green had four points and four blocks, Lawson Hon had three points, Cruise Wilson had two points and six rebounds and Lee Amon and Skyler Quinn had two points apiece.

Mercer Co. at Lincoln
6th Grade
Lincoln 60, Mercer 18

Lincoln had little trouble against visiting Mercer County Middle School with all three Eagle squads steamrolling the visitors, beginning with the sixth-grade team’s 60-18 drubbing of Mercer.

Lincoln took control of the game in the first period, opening up a 19-5 lead. The Eagles then burned the nets for 22 points in the second quarter to extend their lead to 41-11.

The Eagles would hold Mercer to single digits in every quarter, outpointing the visitors 10-4 in the third and 9-3 in the fourth.

Sawyer Horton and Jacob Moore both finished in double digits to help lead Lincoln to the win. Horton led the team with 11 points along with eight rebounds while Moore had 10 points with five assists.

Connor Davis contributed nine points, Blade Nuckols got seven points, Jackson Withrow scored six points and had three steals, Breydon Hatter and Skyler Thompson both had four points, Seth Horton, Elan Lane, Landon Day and Andrew Simmerman had two points apiece and Anthony Kidwell had one point.

7th Grade
Lincoln 50, Mercer 19

Lincoln County’s seventh-graders established themselves as the dominant team early in their game with Mercer, exploding out to a 22-2 start en route to a 50-19 rout.

The Eagles would not match their first-quarter effort again in the game, but the opening period would give them all the points they would need for the win.

Lincoln, which held Mercer to single digits throughout the game, led 32-8 at the half and 44-16 going into the fourth quarter.

Tramane Alcorn and Layne Lark finished in double figures in the win, with Alcorn scoring 11 points and Lake, 10. Alcorn also had five assists and three steals.

Colton Ralston finished with eight points and three steals, Trevor Miracle also had eight points, along with four rebounds, Zack Moore scored six points and had four rebounds, Bo Wallin scored four points, and Jalen Smith and Connor Davis each had two points.

8th Grade
Lincoln 62, Mercer 29

Consistent double-digit scoring allowed Lincoln County to cruise 62-29 over Mercer County in the eighth-grade game.

The Eagles opened on a 12-4 run and used a 16-13 scoring edge in the second period to post a 28-17 halftime lead.

Lincoln would go on to outscore Mercer 34-12 in the second half to earn the lopsided victory.

The Eagles were led to the victory by a trio of double-digit scorers – Cruise Wilson, Tramane Alcorn and Lee Amon. Wilson was Lincoln’s scoring leader with 14 points. He also had eight rebounds, three assists and two blocks. Alcorn followed with 11 points and three assists and Amon had 10 points and seven rebounds.

Clayton Davis finished with eight points, four assists and five steals, Lawson Hon had six points and three assists, Colin Green got four points, Landon McQueen and Braxton Cooper had three points apiece, Zack Young had two points and Ryan York had one.
