Sometimes you just need to get away and get outside and Logan Hubble Memorial Park is a great go-between for those looking for a place to stretch their legs.

While I live on a beautiful farm in Lincoln County with quite a bit of room to explore outside, sometimes I still crave a different landscape every now and then. When that feeling arises, I often turn to Logan Hubble Park.

The 400-acre park and nature preserve offers a complete outdoor package, from paths for walking, running and biking to outdoor playgrounds, disc golf, horseback riding trails and even a 12-acre lake.

With so many options available at one location, the park is a great place to spend an entire day outside. Since Sunday is often the only day I can steal away from work, there have been many times I have traveled to Hubble Park and spent the entire afternoon there.

The public park is pet-friendly and my two dogs are big fans. All dogs must be kept on a leash and owners are asked to clean up after their pets.

When we finish our aerobic adventures, I usually find a quiet, grassy patch by the lake, lay out a blanket and read. With so much room to spread out, it isn’t hard to find a quiet place to yourself.

The park is also home to several clubs, including the Central Kentucky Beagle Club, which works to promote the breeding and training of AKC registered beagles as hunting hounds. The club hosts several beagle trials each year.

I have had the pleasure of witnessing some of those trials and our family farm in Preachersville has even hosted a few. Logan Hubble Park also houses the Dix River Coon Club.

Another favorite hobby of my family’s is horseback riding and Logan Hubble Park has its own horse camp facility with electricity hook ups for campers and trailers. There are also primitive camp sites available. On horseback, riders can enjoy many miles of wooded horse trails within the park.

Outside of clubs, the park is also a great place to have picnics, reunions or other gatherings as there are multiple picnic areas and pavilion spaces. There are also educational outdoor classroom areas and playground equipment.

Logan Hubble Park remains a close-by favorite of mine as I have been there time and time again and almost every visit was a different experience.

I have walked and run the paved paths with my dogs, ridden the scenic, wooded paths on horseback and visited the lake to do some fishing – to me, there are few places that provide such a combination of outdoor activity.

• The park is open year-round and closes at dusk. During winter months, cars may be blocked from driving through the park but can park and walk.
