John Earl “Johnny” Hazlett, age 72, of Nashville, Tennessee, passed away Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Born Tuesday, November 16, 1948 in Stanford, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Robert Earl & Edna Mae Hazlett. His loving wife, whom he married Saturday, November 23, 1968, is Rita Hubbard Hazlett, formerly of Kings Mountain. Johnny served as Lance Corporal in the US Marine Corps 1966-1970, and actively served in the Vietnam War, for 13 months, receiving the Combat Action Ribbon, and Navy Achievement Medal with Valor. Following this service, he went to school on the GI Bill, and enlisted in the US Army, where he served 1975-1992, earning the rank of Major. Johnny worked for the Social Security Administration for the state of Tennessee, for many years. As a young man, Johnny was baptized at Pleasant Point Baptist Church in Kings Mountain, Kentucky, and was a long-time member of Two Rivers Baptist Church in Nashville. Johnny always treasured the time he was able to spend with his family, loved helping his three daughters with their special projects, and loved playing golf with his son. In addition to his wife, Johnny leaves behind one son, John David Hazlett (Sarah) of Mount Juliet, Tennessee; three daughters, Tracy Hazlett of Stanford, Kentucky, Rhonda Galloway (Jack) of College Grove, Tennessee, and Karen Post (Adam) of Hermitage, Tennessee; 16 grandchildren, Reagan Williams (Joshua), Leyna Playforth (Connor), Faith Troop (Josh), Jack Boone Galloway III, John Hubbard Galloway, Hope Post, Charles Galloway, Violet Post, Claude Galloway, Abel Post, Lola Jane Galloway, Winston Galloway, Katherine Mae Hazlett, John Ross Hazlett, Edith Pearl Galloway, and Loretta Rose Hazlett; one great-granddaughter, Hadley Mae Playforth; one expectant great-grandchild due February 2021; one brother, William Daniel Hazlett (Karen) of Lancaster, Kentucky; one sister, Patricia Ann Allen (Garry) of Danville, Kentucky; and several extended family members and friends who mourn his passing. The Public Funeral Service was held 1:00PM Saturday, January 16, 2021 at the church. Bro. Steve Dunn & Bro. Tim Jones officiated the service. Burial, with full military honors performed by the Caswell-Saufley American Legion Post #18 and the US Marine Corps followed in Pleasant Point Cemetery. The playing of TAPS was performed by Johnny’s son, John David Hazlett. Jack Galloway, Adam Post, Joshua Williams, Connor Playforth, Josh Troop, and Garry Allen Jr. served as Active Pallbearers. Johnny’s grandchildren served as Honorary Pallbearers.
