What does it mean to be a retired educator? If people were polled individually the answers would be as varied as people’s interest. No matter what it means to you personally, collectively the Kentucky Retired Teachers Association celebrates retired educators with Retired Teachers Week.
Established in 1957, KRTA is the largest association (32,000 members) of retired educators in the state whose sole purpose is to look out for the welfare of retired educators.
October 16-22,2022 is this year’s annual Kentucky Retired Teachers Week.
The Lincoln County Retired Teachers have several community service projects that they sponsor each year such as school supplies, backpack food program, non-perishable food items for the Fort Logan Ministry, migrant education program, books for newborns, and a new project this year is the Dolly Parton Imagination Library. Lincoln County Judge-Executive, Jim Adams, signed a proclamation designating Oct. 16-22, 2022, as Retired Teachers Week in Lincoln County.
Retired teachers continue to render valuable services in diverse roles in their communities. They represent a tremendous pool of experienced and trained teachers which remains dedicated to the betterment of society everywhere.
These individuals represent a loyal, patriotic, and concerned citizenry, which provide dedicated and dependable support to the leaders of our communities, state, and nation. The Lincoln County retired teachers documented 1601 volunteer hours during the 2021 year in the categories of church, civic, clerical, community, mentoring, health, household, government, education, transportation, and youth. The Independent Sector released a new value for volunteer time in April 2021 of $28.54 per hour. So, the Lincoln County retired teachers generated around $45,692 in volunteer time.
