Abigail Bastin of Lincoln County finished second Friday in the Class 2A girls race in the state cross country championships at Paris.

Bastin ran the 5-kilometer Bourbon County Cross Country course in 18:54, finishing about 12 seconds behind winner Maddie Strong of Scott.

The Lincoln freshman finished 16th in her state race last season and was fifth in 2020. Her time Friday was 1:13 better than her previous best in the state meet.

Bastin won a state track and field championship in the Class 2A girls 1,600-meter run in 2021.

Four other area runners finished among the top 50 in their respective races: Marshall Hart of Mercer County and Max Germann of Boyle County were 22nd and 27th in the Class 2A boys race and Clayra Darnell of Mercer was 46th in the Class 2A girls race Friday, while

Addison Hill of Danville Christian was 33rd in the Class 1A girls race Saturday
