Lincoln County Schools held a ribbon-cutting ceremony recently at the newly renovated welding lab at the Lincoln County High School Area Technology Center.
Three different types of welding are being taught to students in the lab: Stick, MIG and TIG. The lab is also equipped with a plasma cutter and a 56 ton punch press and brake. Students will have the ability to weld with or without gas in the new lab.
Lincoln County Board of Education Chairman Win Smith said he and the board were pleased to add welding as one of the career pathways at the technology center. “This new lab is impressive state of the art equipment. Being able to start the program with a renovated lab space with new equipment was everyone’s goal. I am glad we were able to achieve this without bonding or having to borrow funds,” Smith said.
“This new lab along with the new contract with the University of Kentucky for dual credit courses are examples of our efforts as a board to involve both vocational and college bound students in learning processes at our schools. It is vital that we continue to help prepare students to be successful in life after graduating from our district.”
