Polly Emzety Roberts Dowell (68) passed away June 15, 2023 at her son’s residence in Nicholasville after a long battle with cancer.

Born October 6, 1954 in Wayne County, Kentucky, she was the only daughter of the late Luther and Lula Decker Roberts’ 10 combined children. She was a 1973 graduate of Crab Orchard High School and a lifelong farmer and gardener with a passion for raising all living things.

In addition to her parents, Polly was preceded in death by her first husband, Bobby Dowell, and her second husband, Daniel Cummins, as well as her brothers: Floyd, Robert and Lisco Pitman, Kay, Luther Junior, Tyler and Cas Roberts.

She is survived by her 3 children, Henry, Melasone and Bill Dowell, 2 brothers, Columbus and John Roberts, 8 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and a gobbledygook of nieces and nephews whom she loved very much. Just ask any of them who her favorite was and you’ll find out it was all of them!

Visitation will be Monday, June 19, 2023 starting at 5:00 PM for family and 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM for the public. The funeral service will be Tuesday June 20, 2023 at 11:00 AM at McKnight Funeral Home in Crab Orchard Kentucky.

Services will be officiated by L. Henry Dowell.

Burial will be in the Grant Roberts Cemetery in Wayne County, Kentucky.

Official Pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Bobby, Jacob, Benjamin, Morgan, Melasone and Alissa Dowell.

Honorary Pallbearers will be all of Polly’s nieces and nephews.

Because she loved them so much, expressions of sympathy should take the form of live plants and flowers. Bring your own, if you like. Once the funeral is over, plant them in your flowerbeds in her honor.
