Sophie Schuler is the Lincoln County winner in the “2022-2023 Grandparent of the Year” essay contest. This contest is an annual event for Kentucky 5th grade students in which they submit essays answering why “MY Grandparent should be the AARP Kentucky Grandparent of the Year.”
Sophie is a student in Yvette Runyon’s fifth grade class at Waynesburg Elementary. She is the daughter of Stephen and Grace Schuler. Her winning essay is written in honor of her grandfather, Raymond Schuler.
The essay contest is sponsored by AARP Kentucky and the Kentucky Retired Teachers Association (KRTA). Sophie, her parents, and her grandfather attended the June 20th meeting of the Lincoln County Retired Teachers Association (LCRTA) where she was awarded a certificate and a $25 gift card for her winning essay. Sophie’s teacher, Mrs. Runyon will also receive a gift card.
LCRTA promotes local school participation and serves as local judges for the contest. The essay competition is a unique way to recognize the significant contributions that older Kentuckians make toward shaping the lives and values of youth across the Commonwealth.
