Lucille Frances Genton Benge, 94, passed away Wednesday, September, 11 in Lexington, Kentucky at the University of Kentucky Medical Center. She was born on April 13, 1930 to the late Amie and Emma Jane (Griffin) Genton. She loved gardening, reading, studying the Bible, healthy living, studying history, and enjoyed each neighbor and loved reminiscing with each one.
Lucille was a quiet and gentle soul who loved the Lord, her family, friends, and her neighbors. She never forgot any person she ever met. She was a member of Central Church of Christ in Georgetown, KY. She was an avid lover of history, having been influenced to her core by the events of the Great Depression and World War II. Lucille was a loving big sister to her siblings, having delayed her high school education for two years to stay home to care for her ailing mother. She returned to high school to graduate as salutatorian with her sister, Wanda the valedictorian, and her future husband, Virgil Benge. After completing high school, she worked as a circuit board solder/welder for the Baldwin Piano and Organ Co. in Cincinnati. Lucille and Virgil married in April of 1955 and set off to Virginia to finish Virgil’s time in the Navy, with just their clothes and twenty-two pairs of shoes.
