David McKittrick, 62, of Stanford, was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:40 a.m. The collision occurred as McKittrick was crossing the roadway and stepped into the path of a Nissan Rogue driven by a Lancaster woman, Marcum said.

Stanford Police Chief Zach Middleton reported that police, fire, and EMS crews were dispatched to the scene around 6 a.m. Kentucky State Police were later called to lead the investigation and conduct a collision reconstruction.

Authorities confirmed that no drugs or alcohol are suspected in connection with the driver, but a toxicology report and autopsy for McKittrick are pending, Marcum said.

The crash temporarily closed U.S. 27 for several hours, with traffic rerouted through the Walmart parking lot as investigators worked.
