After a tough four-game stretch, Lincoln County’s softball team bounced back in commanding fashion with a 7-0 shutout of Danville Christian Academy on April 14, powered by a standout pitching performance from Trinity Price.
Price was nearly untouchable in the circle, striking out 10 and allowing just one hit over seven scoreless innings. She walked only two and didn’t allow a runner past second base. Her performance helped the Lady Pats stop a losing skid that had stretched across the previous weekend.
The offense came alive in the second inning when Raelee Lawson hit into a fielder’s choice that brought in two runs, followed by a run-scoring single from Madison Cassidy. Lincoln tacked on additional runs across the middle innings, capitalizing on 10 hits and six walks. Lawson led the way with two RBIs and a 2-for-3 day from the ninth spot in the lineup. Halle Siler also chipped in two hits as the Lady Pats strung together quality at-bats throughout the lineup.
The win marked a much-needed momentum shift after a string of tough losses.
On April 11, Lincoln dropped two games, including an 11-4 loss to Cooper. Despite out-hitting their opponent 6-5, the Lady Pats couldn’t overcome a seven-run fourth inning fueled by defensive miscues. Macie Wade led Lincoln at the plate, going 2-for-2 with two RBIs, while Lawson added a run-scoring double in the second. Price took the loss, allowing just three earned runs across four innings, though eight unearned runs made the difference.
Later that same day, Bourbon County handed Lincoln a 14-0 loss. Bourbon broke the game open with an eight-run third inning, scoring all eight runs without recording a hit—drawing multiple walks and taking advantage of hit-by-pitches and errors. Cassidy had Lincoln’s only hit in the game, and the team’s lone defensive highlight came on a double play turned in the field. Cassidy also started in the circle, surrendering three earned runs over two innings.
The following day, April 12, Lincoln faced another back-to-back, starting with a 17-0 loss to Clinton County. Despite a solid start from Price, who allowed just two earned runs in three innings, Lincoln was unable to slow down a Clinton lineup that posted nine runs in the fourth inning alone. Lauren Winningham was the standout for Clinton, going 4-for-4 with six RBIs, including a three-run home run. Cassidy provided the Lady Pats’ only hit in the game.
Later on April 12, Lincoln looked to regroup but fell 9-3 to Webster County. The Lady Pats jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning thanks to a run-scoring single from Chloe Pennington and two more that came across on a defensive error. But Webster immediately responded with five runs in the bottom half and never trailed again. Price pitched four and one-third innings, allowing two earned runs and striking out three. Cassidy and Price both recorded two hits, and Wade added two RBIs.
Across the four-game stretch, Lincoln showed flashes of offensive potential but struggled with consistency in the field and on the mound. Errors and walks repeatedly opened the door for big innings from opponents.
Price’s command in the circle set the tone early, and the Lady Pats played clean, focused softball behind her. With discipline at the plate and sharper defense, Lincoln returned to form and showed what the team is capable of when all facets align.
