A threatening message prompted a lockdown at Lincoln County High School on May 1, with Lincoln County Middle School placed on a soft lockdown as a precaution.
According to Lincoln County Public Schools, officers from the Stanford Police Department responded quickly after being notified of the threat and began investigating the situation at the high school. The district said the lockdown was implemented “out of an abundance of caution” to ensure student safety during the investigation.
“At this time, the incident appears to be isolated and there is no known imminent or legitimate threat to students or staff,” officials said in a post shared on the school district’s social media page. “However, all threats are investigated immediately.”
Because the middle school shares a campus with Lincoln County High School, it was placed under a soft lockdown to maintain safety and assist law enforcement with their response.
Lincoln County High School later posted a message assuring families that all students were safe and that the school was following established safety protocols. “We are working closely with local authorities. We will provide updates as soon as it is safe to do so,” the school said.
Just before 4 p.m., the Stanford Police Department shared that a second threatening note was discovered after normal operations had resumed. One juvenile has been criminally charged in connection with the incident.
Authorities did not release further details about the nature of the threats, citing the ongoing investigation.
