Ongoing issues of drought conditions has prompted cities and counties across the commonwealth to issue burn bans.

Stanford issued a citywide ban last Tuesday and now the whole county is under a burn ban.

Lincoln County Judge Executive Jim W. Adams issued an executive order last week prohibiting outdoor burning.

Adams issued the order on Sept. 10 due to the drought conditions resulting in dry vegetation and causing hazardous fire conditions.

The burn ban is a way to abate the risk of fires and further serve to protect the health, safety, welfare and property of Lincoln County citizens.

Lincoln County Fire Chief Danny Glass determined that an extreme fire hazard exists and that any open burning outdoors may become difficult to control which would warrant the use of “extraordinary manpower and resources and create the potential for loss of life and property.”

The burn ban is in effect until such time as conditions exist that warrant the order being rescinded.

Fires in an outdoor grill for the purpose of food preparation are exempted from the ban.

The local fire departments may permit outdoor burning in their jurisdiction as they see fit by first notifying Bluegrass 911 Dispatch.
