STANFORD – The Lincoln County Board of Education has unanimously approved the school calendar for the 2022-23 school year.

The calendar was presented by the school calendar committee during the board’s Jan. 18 meeting.

Opening day for students will be Aug. 10. The calendar includes 170 days of instruction for students and four federal holidays including Labor Day, Thanksgiving, winter break, and Martin Luther King Jr. Day. There are also five staff work days on Aug. 9, Sept. 23, Jan. 2, March 17 and May 16.

Professional Development days are tentatively scheduled for Aug. 5, Nov. 8, Nov. 23 and Feb. 20.

Other important dates include fall break, which will take place Oct. 3 through Oct. 7 and winter break which will begin Dec. 19 and end on Jan. 2.

Spring break in 2023 will be from April 3 to April 7 and the last day of school is set for May 19.

The calendar committee plans to present a calendar for the 2023-24 school year next month.

In other business, the board:
• Heard a report from Chief Operations Officer Darren Yaden on maintenance, tech and utilities expenditures. • Approved the following appointments for one year terms: Board attorney, Jonathan Baker, $90 per hour; Board treasurer, Leeanne Smith, annual salary of $2,000; and Board secretary, Colleen Benson, annual salary of $4,000.

• Approved the 2022 regular board meeting dates, times and locations

• Approved a resolution authorizing the Lincoln County School District Finance Corporation to issue revenue bonds

• Discussed bids for the Lincoln County ATC Welding Lab project; Superintendent Michael Rowe said the board opened one bid at 2 p.m. on Jan. 18. The board unanimously accepted the base bid from Branscum Construction for $612,000 with the option to add an additional $36,600 for a heat pump for a total of $648,600.

• Approved a draft budget for the 2022-23 fiscal year

• Discussed and approved raising substitute bus driver pay from $12.75 an hour to $14.34 an hour.

• Accepted the School Facilities Construction Commission offer of assistance totaling $62,587.

• Approved a $36,550 feasibility study from RossTarrant Architects to study the cost of upgrading some athletic facilities and connecting the two buildings at Lincoln County Middle School. Board member Ricky Lane voted no on the motion.

• Approved a second College Career Navigator position that is funded through Berea College’s Gear UP grant.
