STANFORD — A Paris woman has sued the City of Stanford over a slip-and-fall accident in January of 2016.
Janice Carol Clay Redmon alleges the city was responsible for clearing and salting a sidewalk she slipped on outside the Lincoln County courthouse. In the suit, Redmon says she slipped around 9:45 a.m. on Jan. 21, as she was returning from the courthouse to her vehicle. “As a result of her slip and fall, (Redmon) suffered serious personal injury,” the suit reads.
“The sidewalks had been partially cleared and salted and had the appearance of being deceptively safe; however, they remained in a dangerous condition,” the suit alleges.
The suit names the City of Stanford, Mayor Eddie Carter and “unknown defendants” as defendants. An accompanying affidavit from Redmon’s lawyer, Gregory E.J. Coulson, states that the unknown defendants are people who are employed by Stanford to keep sidewalks in the city clear of ice and snow.
The suit seeks “judgment against the defendants, in such amount as a jury may determine reasonable and appropriate,” as well as attorney’s costs and “pre-judgment and post-judgment interest.”
Approximately 3 inches of snow fell in the area over the course of the day on which Redmon alleges she slipped, according to news archives.
Carter said he received a copy of the lawsuit on Tuesday, but the city attorney is currently out-of-town and won’t return until next week. Carter declined to comment on the suit until he reviews it with the attorney.
