Helping out: Stanford collects donations for Hindman flood victims

STANFORD – Stanford and Lincoln County residents have an opportunity to help eastern Kentucky victims whose homes and lives were upended by floods.
The City of Stanford is accepting donations to be taken to the City of Hindman, which was destroyed by flood waters.
“In an ongoing effort to support our fellow communities following the flooding in Eastern Kentucky, beginning immediately, the City of Stanford will be accepting donations at the following locations: Stanford City Hall; Stanford Police Department; and Stanford Fire Department,” a press release states.
The city is accepting the following donations:
• first aid supplies
• batteries
• flashlights
• shovels
• mops and brooms
• cleaning supplies
• extension cords buckets
• fans and dehumidifiers
• garbage bags
• sponges
• work gloves
• non-perishable food
• plastic totes
• toilet paper
• shampoo and conditioner
• feminine hygiene products
• pet food, flea medicine and shampoo
Items can be dropped off at any of the three locations and must be dropped off by Sept. 1.
“The items will be delivered to the City of Hindman on Sept. 2,” the release states.

Stanford Mayor Dalton Miller said it’s a great opportunity to help those in need.
“I think it’s an opportunity for us to give back to other Kentuckians that are having a terrible time and have suffered greatly,” Miller said.
