Georgia Lee “Weedie” Hocker, 87, of Lexington, Kentucky (formerly of Stanford, Kentucky) passed away on Wednesday, September 14, 2022 at Baptist Health in Lexington, Kentucky. Born on November 9, 1934 in Stanford, she was the daughter of the late George and Virginia (Hill) Cox. She was the widow to the late Jesse S. Hocker, Jr. Weedie graduated from Stanford High School in 1952 and attended the University of Kentucky where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. In 1954, she married Jesse and he went into the United States Air Force where he had a 30-year career as a pilot. After Jesse’s retirement from the Air Force in 1984, Weedie and Jesse moved to Dallas, Texas where they started and operated a business, PetroChem International Corporation, a refinery and pipeline inspection company. After Jesse’s death in 2003, Weedie continued to live in Dallas until returning to her native Kentucky in 2021. Weedie was a strong, caring and compassionate person that was loved by many and who had countless friends. She was a loving and wonderful mother, sister, grandmother,great-grandmother and aunt. Weedie had a strong Christian faith and was always kind, generous and giving to those in need. Throughout her life, Weedie was involved in numerous civic organizations and though not present in Stanford, remained involved with Stanford Christian Church and McCormick Christian Church.
Survivors include two sons, Jesse S. Hocker III of Grapevine, Texas and George Hocker (Kathy) of Nicholasville, Kentucky; one brother, William P. Cox (Frances) of Lexington, Kentucky; three grandsons, Jesse S. Hocker IV (Kelsey), William H. Hocker and Clarke “Bo” Hocker (Elizabeth); three great-grandchildren, Jesse S. Hocker V, James “Jay” Hocker and Hanna Hocker; and two nephews, William P. Cox, Jr. (Caroline) and George C. Cox.
A one-day service will be held on Monday, September 19, 2022 at Stanford Christian Church. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Funeral service will follow at 12:00 p.m. with Dr. Jim Baughman officiating. Burial will follow at Buffalo Springs Cemetery.
