Lou Dockins Martin passed away Tuesday, June 4th, after a short illness. She was 95 years old, born February 3, 1929 in Logan, West Virginia. She was the wife of Charles W. Martin, Jr. , who passed away in 2013.
She is survived by her 3 children and spouses/significant other, David (Donna), Joe (Tanya), and Kim Dampier(John), and 7 grandchildren, Evan Martin, Dillon Dampier, Grayson Dampier, Seth Martin, Rachel Martin, Chandler Dampier, and Adam Martin, and one brother, Robert Dockins, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Elwood and Maggie Dockins, her twin sister Lee, and 5 other sisters (Evelyn, Genevieve, Louise, Wickliffe, and Frances) and one brother (Hardin).
Lou lived her married life as a wife and homemaker. She was a member of Stanford Baptist Church. She lived for her family, and always put their needs before her own. Her specialties were birthday celebrations for children and grandchildren, as well as coordinating fantastic Thanksgiving dinners and wonderful Christmases for her family. Lou enjoyed reading, walking, babysitting, and was a wonderful singer. In her younger years, during World War II, she would attend USO dances with her sisters and friends, to boost the morale of soldiers at local army bases. In her final years at her memory care residence, she was known simply as Miss Lou, who would burst into song at any given moment, spreading joy wherever she went, and always enjoying a good cup of coffee.
