STANFORD – With only two votes determining the District 4 School Board race, a recanvass of the results was requested following the Nov. 5 general election.

The recanvass of all vote totals for that race, requested by incumbent Gloria Sneed, was conducted on Thurs., Nov. 14 at the Lincoln County Clerk’s Office.

The results remained the same with Lisa Gillem beating Sneed with 774 votes to 772.

A recanvass is different from a recount, which is a more indepth procedure that requires an order from a Circuit Court judge for the examination of ballots.

A recanvass is a review of all vote totals for the specific race.

Lincoln County Clerk Nancy Jackson said the recanvass consisted of reviewing the totals from all Lincoln County polling places, early voting and mail-in ballots.

“There were no changes to the vote totals at our recanvass this morning,” Jackson said last Thursday.

Gillem is one of two new faces to join the Lincoln County Board of Education following the general election.

Board Chairman Etta Meek was unseated by challenger Phillip Coots in the race for the District 5 board seat.

Coots garnered a total of 1,158 votes to Meek’s 759 votes.
