The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) has launched a comprehensive study examining the KY 1194 corridor in Lincoln County, focusing on safety, accessibility, and long-term infrastructure improvements for one of the region’s key routes.

The study explores three specific areas:

• Improving KY 1194 west of KY 78 (Hustonville Road)

• Extending KY 1194 east on a new alignment to US 27 near the schools

• Considering complete streets elements on KY 78 (Main Street) through downtown Stanford

Planning and public input

 

The first phase involves gathering data to assess current road conditions, traffic patterns, and crash history. This analysis helps determine how well the corridor functions and whether a new connection to US 27 would be beneficial.

 

Following this assessment, the project team developed several design options to meet identified needs. Proposed solutions include wider lanes and shoulders, realigned curves, added turn lanes, and the inclusion of bike and pedestrian lanes. Each option will be evaluated based on potential benefits and community impact.

 

Public feedback plays a vital role in the planning process. A survey on the proposed improvements is available on the Stanford City Hall Facebook page, where residents are encouraged to share what works well and where changes are needed.

Nearby and future projects

The KY 1194 study is one of several ongoing transportation efforts in the area. In 2024, small-scale safety upgrades were made along KY 78 west of Stanford, including enhanced striping, improved signage, shoulder and ditch work, curve adjustments, and guardrail replacements.

 

Additionally, Kentucky’s current Highway Plan allocates nearly $150 million for Lincoln County projects over the next six years. These include the reconstruction of US 127 near Stanford, safety upgrades along US 150, and a major bridge replacement. While the KY 1194 corridor study is funded through this plan, no budget has yet been assigned for construction. Budget updates are expected when a new Highway Plan is released in spring 2026.
